Wong’s East team shut out

Hawaii’s Kolten Wong finished 0-for-4 in the East Division’s 5-0 loss to the West in yesterday’s Cape Cod League All-Star game at Fenway Park.

Wong started at second base and hit third in the order. He had an RBI chance in the eighth inning, but flied out to left with two runners on base.

Wong entered the break second in the league with a .331 batting average. He has 17 stolen bases in 24 chances and hit three home runs with six RBIs.

Works added to UH soccer staff

Vanessa Works was hired as an assistant coach for the Hawaii women’s soccer team, the school announced yesterday.

Works was a second assistant and goalkeepers coach at UNLV last season. Previously, she served as a graduate assistant at Concordia (Calif.) University.

She was a four-year starter at goalkeeper and holds the Concordia school records for career wins and shutouts.

Rolfing’s show airs Saturday

A new episode of Mark Rolfing’s Global Golf Adventure airs Saturday on KHNL at 9:30 a.m., before the network’s third-round coverage of the U.S. Senior Open.

Rolfing, a golf broadcaster from Kapalua, produces and hosts Global Golf Adventure. This is the third installment of the show and it will feature Wales, which hosts the Ryder Cup this year. There will also be interviews with Fred Couples and U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin. Nancy Lopez will provide a golf tip.

The next Global Golf Adventure will be Sept. 5.

Charity tennis tourney this weekend

The Mauna Kea Beach Hotel is hosting the Brantley charity tennis tournament Saturday and Sunday.

OCC members at U.S. Senior Open

Two Oahu Country Club members tee off within 40 minutes today in the U.S. Senior Open, at Sahalee Country Club in Sammamish, Wash. Kailua’s Larry Stubblefied, who won the Hawaii qualifier, starts at 9:50 a.m. Hawaii time, followed by Honolulu’s Dave Eichelberger, the 1999 U.S. Senior Open champion, at 10:20.

Kua captures Prince

TJ Kua closed with a 6-under-par 66 on Sunday to win the Prince Invitational at the Prince Golf Course on Kauai. Kua’s 36-hole score of 135 was six better than Ron Castillo Jr. (69–141). Lance Taketa (73–144) was third. Paul Glenn (82–160) won the A flight, Steve Mickle (85–161) the B flight and Sharron Weber (88-178) women’s flight.
