Public relations pros honored

The Public Relations Society of America-Hawaii chapter honored members with individual awards as well as Koa Anvil, Koa Hammer and awards of excellence last night at the Hawaii Prince Hotel.

Becker Communications Inc. received 12 awards, including Best in Show for its "Oscar Mayer Weinermobile" campaign for Kraft Foods.

McNeil Wilson Communications/Anthology Marketing Group won the most awards, 16, while Bennet Group Strategic Communications earned 11; Hastings & Pleadwell took home seven; Stryker, Weiner & Yokota, six; Hawaii Pacific Health and Pang Communications, five; the Limtiaco Co. and Schweitzer Consulting, four each; Communications-Pacific Inc., Castle Medical Center and Current Events, three each; and Hawaii Pacific University, two.

Donda Spiker, marketing and public relations manager for Kuakini Medical Center, was presented the 2010 Gregg W. Perry Public Relations Professional of the Year Award, honoring an exemplary individual who has made a major contribution to the profession.

Melissa Chang, "buzzmaster" for AdStreamz Inc., received the President’s Leadership Award in recognition of significant contributions to the success of the chapter and the profession.

The PRSA Hawaii/Roy Leffingwell Scholarship was presented to Ciera Nahale, an incoming senior at Hawaii Pacific University. She will receive $1,000 toward her public relations studies.
