Missing hiker on Kauai is found
A Kauai County helicopter and a rescue specialist flew in to Hanakoa Valley to transport a hiker who had been found dehydrated and unable to walk out on his own yesterday.
Two off-duty firefighters rode on a Jet Ski to Hanakapiai Beach about 7 a.m. to search the valley for the overdue hiker from New Hampshire who was reported missing by his wife about 10:30 last night, Kauai County officials said.
About noon, hikers coming out of the valley informed the wife that her husband was waiting at the landing pad in Hanakoa Valley, officials said. Apparently, he was dehydrated and was unable to walk out.
He was then brought to Princeville Airport and released to his wife.
