UH about to start season-ticket sales
Season-ticket sales for Hawaii football begin Monday and Rainbow Wahine volleyball on July 26.
Sales begin at 8 a.m. on the respective Mondays, either online (HawaiiAthletics.com), by phone (944-2697) or at the Stan Sheriff Center box office. As of Aug. 2, the box office hours will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Warriors open the home season Sept. 2 against USC. The Chevron Rainbow Wahine Invitational kicks off the volleyball season Aug. 27 and features Kansas State, San Diego and UCLA.
Dolans to teach at paddling clinic
Kailua’s Pat and Ryan Dolan, members of the U.S. National Sprint Kayak Team, are among the featured clinicians at the inaugural "Paddling Excellence" clinic on July 31.
The event, put on by the Hawaii Canoe/Kayak Team, is from 1 to 3 p.m. at the canoe halau at the makai end of University Avenue. The cost is $15 for HCKT members, $25 for non-members.
The clinic, the first in a series, is open to all levels of paddlers. The main focus is on technique for outrigger canoes.

The national team has moved its home base and training location to Honolulu under coach Guy Wilding.

U.S. swim champ to coach ‘Iolani
Bobby Brewer, who was a national champion in the 100-meter backstroke in 1998, has been named senior swim coach of ‘Iolani Swim Club.
Brewer will work with upper-level swimmers on the swim club and will coach the Raiders’ varsity during the school year.
Brewer has been a vice president with Premier Management Group for the past eight years. He helped manage the careers of several Olympic swimmers, including Aaron Peirsol and Amanda Beard.
Brewer was an assistant swim coach at ‘Iolani in 2001. He was an All-American at Georgia and won three SEC individual titles.
State Games features shooting
F-class prone and high power rifle competitions are offered at this weekend’s Aloha State Games shooting competition at the Pu’uloa Range Training Faciltiy in Ewa Beach.
The events are open to civilians, military and supervised juniors 16 and older. The F-class tournament is tomorrow; rifle is Sunday. Check-in is at 6:30 a.m. Firing starts at 8 a.m. both days.

Sports festival in Kakaako tomorrow
The inaugural ESPN 1420 Sports Festival, featuring sports clinics and entertainment, is scheduled for 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at Kakaako Gateway Park.
