SHARKS SAVED!
Key figures in the campaign to ban possession of shark fins in Hawaii were the guests of honor at a dinner June 30 at Mandalay Restaurant. Former Gov. Ben Cayetano, left, was joined by Peter Knights (CEO of WildAid), Vicky Cayetano, Stefanie Brendl (Shark Allies), Ginny Tiu, Inga Gibson (Humane Society US), Iris Ho (Humane Society International), Kelly Hu, state Sen. Clayton Hee and state Rep. Angus McKelvey. Hee introduced the bill in the Senate. McKelvey took the lead in the House.

MOONLIGHT OPTIONAL
Kaumakaiwa Kanaka'ole, left, Robert Cazimero, Cyril Pahinui and Roland Cazimero caught up backstage at "Moonlight Mele" Saturday at Bishop Museum. Moonrise wasn't until well after the concert was over, but it was a great evening of modern Hawaiian music.

ONE LAST LOOK
Kathleen Sattler was joined by her sons, Doug, left, and Michael, in co-hosting a final viewing of her late husband's Lionel train collection June 27 at her East Honolulu residence. Jim Sattler's collection includes unique Lionel prototype designs and items going back to 1901. It will be auctioned on the mainland by Greg Stout Auctions in October.

PARTY AT PEARL!
Commodore Stuart Mayer, left, of the Royal Australian Navy, welcomed U.S. Adm. Patrick Walsh and Australian Consul-General David Binns to the Australian RIMPAC reception aboard the HMAS Kanimbla June 29 at Pearl Harbor. Fried kangaroo-on-a-stick was so popular that a crowd gathered at the "barbie" and ate as fast as the chef could cook (a spokesman said "roos" and "crocs" aren't endangered Down Under).
