City hosts weekend celebrations in Laie and Maili

The city is hosting celebrations in Laie and Maili during the Independence Day holiday weekend.

At Maili Beach Park, the public is invited to the 3rd annual 4th of July celebration at Maili Beach Park featuring entertainment, sports training, a shoreline casting/fishing tournament, classic truck display, food and fireworks.

 The event includes:

>> Tomorrow from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.: Performers Fiji, Brown Bags to Stardom, Siaosi, Kawini, Laga Savea.

>> Sunday from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m.: Performers Nesian Nine, Brown Bags to Stardom, and Fire Knife Dancer Brandon Maneafaiga; and fireworks at 7:45 p.m., 8:45 p.m. with a finale at 9:45 p.m.

The event also includes a classic truck display, custom golf cart show, a conditioning and training clinic by UH Coach Rich Miano and UH athletes, keiki rides, games and food vendors, city officials said.

In Laie, the city is hosting Sunset on the Beach today and tomorrow, featuring free outdoor movies, including the Academy Award winning “The Blind Side” and live entertainment.

The event’s details are:

>> Today, from 2 p.m. to 10 p.m., with Heather’s Inflatables, Health and Resource Tent, Keiki rides and food venders and  “The Blind Side” showing at 7:30 p.m.

>> Tomorrow, kids rides, food and entertainment and the movie “Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs” at 7:30 p.m.

Vendors at the event include, Laie Farmers Market, Lickety Split Ice Cream, Kimo’s Akamai Catering, Time 2 Grind, Domino’s Pizza, Atoa Tugaga Family, Halau Nalu, Koolauloa Hawaiian Civic Club, Papa Ole’s Kitchen and Concert of the Stars.
