Territory’s Statehood Aspirations Are Given Support By the GOP

Chicago, June 27 » The full resolutions committee of the Republican national convention this afternoon agreed on inclusion of a statehood for Hawaii plank in the party’s platform.

This plank will express approval of statehood without setting any definite date for its accomplishment.

The committee decided to separate the Hawaii and Alaska statehood planks on account of some difference in the present circumstances of the two territories.

The platform is scheduled to be presented to the convention tonight in a report from the resolutions committee.

Chicago, June 27 » Hawaii’s aspirations for statehood received additional emphasis today from the Republican national convention’s resolutions committee in shaping up the planks for the GOP platform.

The full resolutions committee meeting in the Stevens Hotel approved a plank which puts the party on record as favoring statehood for the Midpacific territory without commit-ting the party to any definite date when statehood will be achieved.

The report of the committee embodying the platform on which the party will make its 1944 campaign will be made to the convention tonight.

Miss Marguerite Ashford and Roy A. Vitousek, both delegates from Oahu, are on the resolutions committee from the islands.

Hawaii’s delegation to the national convention sweltered with thousands of others in the super humid Chicago stadium under the blinding glare of Kleig lights for morning and evening sessions of the first day.
