Akaka pushes measure to mandate training for federal agency supervisors

Legislation that would require federal agencies to mandate training for supervisors has cleared a U.S. Senate committee.

The bill’s unanimous passage by the Senate Homeland Security and Governmental Affairs Committee was announced today by its sponsor, Hawaii Democrat Sen. Daniel Akaka.

The legislation requires federal supervisors to receive training within one year of accepting their posts, and once every three years thereafter.

Supervisors would be trained on communicating goals and objectives with underlings, mentoring and motivating employees, employee collective bargaining rights and workplace discrimination law, among other topics.
