Coast Guard airlifts stricken fishing crewman to shore
The Coast Guard yesterday rescued a 25-year-old man who had been fighting stomach pains aboard a fishing vessel since last week.
The vessel, Blue Sky, called for help about 11 a.m. Thursday after the man complained of “pain in the abdomen,” the Coast Guard said.
Since the boat was too far for aircraft to reach, about 400 miles from Honolulu, rescuers waited for it to travel toward Hawaii.
On Saturday evening, a C-130 airplane dropped medical supplies for the man.
Yesterday about 7:45 a.m., a Coast Guard C-130 airplane flew cover while a HH-65 Dolphin helicopter hoisted the man off the ship about 115 miles southwest of Honolulu. He was taken to the Queen’s Medical Center in unknown condition.
