The Celebration of Charlie Wedemeyer’s life for Hawaii will be next Sunday at Hemmeter Fieldhouse on the Punahou School campus.

Visitation is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m., with service to follow.

Wedemeyer, one of Hawaii’s finest athletes who battled Lou Gehrig’s disease for 34 years, died June 3. He was 64. Wedemeyer was a standout athlete at Punahou School and was named Prep Athlete of the Decade in the 1960s. He went on to play football for Michigan State and participated in what was called "The Game of the Century" against Notre Dame in 1966. That game was the first to be telecast live to Hawaii.
