Medical drama a healthy gift

It’s easy to understand why the TV networks would want to have popular shows based in Hawaii. Just add a good plot and you’re good to go. So welcome ABC, which will be producing a new prime-time medical drama here called "Off the Map." It will be the second network series to be filming here, joining CBS’s remake of "Hawaii Five-0." Let’s hope the viewership of "Off the Map" is off the charts.

Make room for more books

There are few things more exciting for Hawaii’s rabid book readers than strolling through the aisles and aisles of wonderful used books at the annual Friends of the Library of Hawaii sale, which starts tomorrow at McKinley High School and runs through June 27.

Even better, most of the books—and CDs, vinyl records, DVDs and more—are available for a song. And even better than that, the prices continually decrease as the event goes on. On the other hand, if you wait too long, you might miss that special book or CD you were hoping to find. So plan your buying strategy now and do your part to help Hawaii’s state libraries.

Of course, kudos to everyone who donates their books, records and movies to the libraries throughout the year, making this annual sale a possibility to begin with.
