Newest dolphin needs a name

Sea Life Park is holding a contest to name its new baby Atlantic bottlenose dolphin born Feb. 27 to parents Laka and Kaleo. The male calf – Laka’s fifth baby – weighed in at 45 pounds and measured 40 inches in length. Park curator Jeff Pawloski reports the little one has been at his mom’s side nursing on a regular schedule and receiving around-the-clock care and supervision. Starting June 26, Seal Life Park will offer special guided visits for guests to see the new baby dolphin. To enter the name-the-dolphin contest, go to www.sea lifeparkhawaii.com/baby by Aug. 31. Winners will get a stay at the Sheraton Waikiki, a one-of-a-kind in-water encounter with mother and baby, and other prizes.

Quartet to play in free concert

The Chamber Music Hawaii Galliard String Quartet, considered to be Hawaii’s premier string quartet, will present a free concert to celebrate the library’s summer reading program tomorrow at 11:45 a.m. at the Hawaii State Library.

The one-hour concert will feature the music of Bach, Mozart, Ravel, Prokofiev, Queen Liliuokalani and other composers. The musicians will be available to answer questions from the audience.

The Galliard String Quartet consists of Claire Sakai Hazzard (first violin), Hung Wu (second violin), Mark Butin (viola) and Joanna Morrison (cello). All four performed with the Honolulu Symphony Orchestra.
