Gov. Linda Lingle seeks partnership with Tian Wei Group Co. Ltd.
Gov. Linda Lingle met yesterday with Beijing executives of the Tian Wei Group Co. Ltd. to establish a possible partnership in clean and renewable energy development.
Tian Wei, a state-owned enterprise that owns 60 percent of Honolulu solar energy firm Hoku Scientific, specializes in solar power, wind and other clean and renewable energy technologies. The company, with annual revenues of $3 billion, has more than 12,000 workers.
While promoting the state in China, the governor also spoke at a forum encouraging investment in Hawaii and signed an educational agreement between Hawaii Pacific University and Beijing Jiaotong University.
The governor and Hawaii officials have been in China to promote the islands as a tourist destination, as well as a place to do business and get an education.
Lingle was scheduled to travel today from Beijing to Tokyo, where she will promote Hawaii tourism. She returns to Honolulu on Saturday.
