Hawaii freshman centerfielder Kelly Majam was named to the ESPN.com All-America team, the first Rainbow Wahine to be selected by ESPN.com.

"It’s very cool," Majam said. "I give all the glory to God."

Majam, a second-year freshman, led the nation in home runs with 30, setting single-season records for both UH and the Western Athletic Conference. She also set school marks with 81 runs scored and 44 walks.

Majam led the Wahine with a .400 batting average and had a perfect 1.000 fielding percentage with 79 put-outs and six assists in centerfield. The WAC Freshman of the Year was fourth in NCAA Division I in runs scored (1.23 rpg) and fifth in slugging percentage (.919) while picking up second-team All-American honors from Louisville Slugger-NFCA.

"I always wanted to be an All-American," she said. "I didn’t know there were different All-American lists. That was nice."

Majam missed the entire 2009 season after suffering a torn ACL in her right knee. "That was a challenge," she said. "But I did learn a lot. I worked hard to get back into shape. This year, I played with more passion. It was a lot of fun."

Wahine finish No. 7 in softball polls

Hawaii (50-16), which made its first Women’s College World Series appearance in school history, finished No. 7 in both the USA Today-NFCA and ESPN.com /USA Softball final polls released yesterday.

It was the fifth time the Wahine finished ranked in the final poll of the season and was their highest ranking since finishing at No. 10 in 1995.

WCWS champion UCLA received all 30 first-place votes. The Bruins were followed by Arizona, Georgia, Tennessee, Washington, Florida, Hawaii, Missouri, Alabama and Michigan.
