GOP: National Democrats pull ‘flip-flop’ in Hawaii

The Hawaii Republican Party is accusing national Democrats of a “flip-flop” because they’re now supporting Colleen Hanabusa.

Hanabusa, the state Senate president, is the leading Democratic candidate to take on Republican U.S. Rep. Charles Djou in November’s general election. Djou won last month’s special election for the seat.

Hawaii Republican Party Chairman Jonah Kaauwai said Monday the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee backed Ed Case before the special election, but they’re now supporting Hanabusa after Case said he wouldn’t run again.

The DCCC announced Monday that Hanabusa has qualified for its Red to Blue Program, making her eligible for financial, communications, grassroots and strategic support.
