The Air National Guard, state Health Department and area agencies are conducting free health and dental assessments on the Big Island through Wednesday.

The free program began last week as part of a Hawaii Medical Innovative Readiness Training project called "E Malama Kakou," or "to care for all."

E Malama Kakou has been conducted four times on Oahu since last year.

The 193rd Medical Group of the Pennsylvania Air National Guard is providing much of the medical personnel and support for the Big Island program, supplemented by the Hawaii Air National Guard’s 154th Medical Group.

The Bay Area Clinic (Dental Clinic) at Keaau was designated for free services over the weekend, and dental services will be provided tomorrow at Bay Clinic’s Pahoa location from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Free high school sports physicals will be offered from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. tomorrow at Keaau High School and from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Tuesday at Pahoa High School. They can be used as the requirement for BIIF sports participation. Students must be accompanied by a parent or legal guardian.

Health screenings and retinal examinations will be held tomorrow and Tuesday, focusing on the elderly and their caregivers, but they will be open to everyone from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Office for the Aging.

Free medical and dental services also will be available Wednesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at a health fair at Wailoa State Park and from 12:30 to 2:30 p.m. at the Salvation Army Hilo Outreach.
