3 kayakers rescued off Kaena Point
Coast Guard, Ocean Safety, and the Honolulu Fire Department rescued three kayakers in distress off Kaena Point Saturday morning.
Firefighters were responding to kayakers who got pushed out about two miles off shore around 10:20 a.m.
A Coast Guard helicopter crew located two of the kayakers who were tied together and Ocean Safety towed them back to shore with a jet ski.
The Honolulu Fire Department found the third kayaker about 300 yards off the coast and safely brought the kayaker back to shore.
"The two kayakers acted correctly to improve their chances of being located quickly," said LT Kevin Edes, Sector Honolulu Command Center Supervisor. "By tying their kayaks together, they became a larger target more easily seen from the air."
