It was fitting that Nainoa Thompson welcomed a pioneering Swiss pilot to Hawaii on Friday, climbing up to the cockpit to greet Andre Borschberg, who in flying the Solar Impulse 2 from Japan had completed the longest and most dangerous leg of the solar-powered global journey.
By flying around the world, the Solar Impulse 2 crew captures attention with its sense of innovation and adventure, all while highlighting the renewable energy.
Likewise, Thompson and the Polynesian Voyaging Society inspire with their ongoing Malama Honua worldwide voyage, traversing vast oceans in an outrigger canoe, using the same methods as ancient Hawaiians who first settled these islands.
Malama Honua’s core message: "To care for our Earth."
