After more than a year of silence, new information has been released concerning the "other" big project on the Las Vegas Strip. Australian casino magnate James Packer says he will build a two-tower, 1,100-room resort called Alon Las Vegas on the 35-acre site located across from the Wynn and next door to the under-construction Resorts World Las Vegas.
Word is that Packer had intended to keep the details of his project quiet for a while longer, but couldn’t keep the lid on after filing for necessary land entitlements and building permits. He wasn’t willing to give up any more, however, leaving things like timetables, costs and resort details unknown.
Wuhu: A new restaurant called Wuhu Noodle has opened at the Silverton. Wuhu follows the trend in places like Silk Road Noodle Bar at the Westgate and California Noodle House at the California of offering dishes that represent multiple Asian cuisines, including Chinese, Vietnamese and Thai.
Cook E.’s back: Legendary lounge man Cook E. Jarr is playing Napoleon’s Lounge at Paris on Mondays from 6 to 8 p.m. The shows are free to attend, but there’s a two-drink minimum. Cook E. Jarr has been performing his high-energy act for more than 30 years.
Question: A couple of months ago I read about a bar where you can play $20 on video poker and get a free lunch. Is that deal still valid, and if so where?
Answer: The Crown & Anchor on East Tropicana offers a choice of anything on its menu from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. when you play at least $20. A second Crown & Anchor on west Spring Mountain offers the same deal from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. If you miss lunch, you can get a free appetizer until 6 p.m. on the east and 7 p.m. on the west. Both bars are about 3 miles off the Strip. A third option is Sagos, which is farther west on Fort Apache but offers anything on the menu around the clock for playing the 20.
