UH’s Clarke named to Lombardi Award watch list
University of Hawaii offensive tackle Ben Clarke was named to the watch list for the Lombardi Award, which honors the best lineman or linebacker in college football.
Clarke, who is entering his senior season, also was on last year’s watch list.
"It’s pretty cool," Clarke said. "I’m honored."
Offensive linemen, defensive linemen and linebackers who align no deeper than 5 yards from the line of scrimmage are eligible for consideration.
Clarke has started all 37 games since joining the Warriors in January 2012. He was the Warriors’ center his first two seasons. Last year, he agreed to move to left tackle as the blind-side protector for the quarterback. He allowed only one sack.
Clarke is likely to stay at left tackle this season because of Brenden Urban’s development at center.
