Celerity of Division 7 was the first to cross the finish line in Honolulu early Friday. But there are unfinished entries in Divisions 2 and 3. James McDowell of Hawaii, aboard SC 70 Grand Illusion, is one such entrant.
The event, which begins in Los Angeles, declared the Merlin Trophy to Wild Oats XI, by Roy Pat Disney and Bob Oatley, for lowest elapsed time. Manouch Moshayedi’s Rio 100 took the Barn Door Trophy for being the first monohull without powered assistance to complete the course.
Henderson to speak at QB Club
John Henderson has replaced John Flanagan as a guest speaker at Monday’s Honolulu Quarterback Club luncheon at the Maple Garden Restaurant.
Henderson, the founder of Holomua on Wheels, is joined by sports consultant Mosi Williams as the weekly speakers.
Lunch starts at 11:30 a.m., with the program beginning at noon.
De La Torre, McMahon win Tinman
Luis De La Torre and Brigitte McMahon were the men’s and women’s fastest competitors in the Tinman Triathlon held Sunday at Kapiolani Park.
De La Torre finished the course — a 750-meter swim, 40-kilometer bike ride and 10K run — in 1:48:44.9. McMahon, competing in the 45-49 age group, clocked in at 1:57:10.7. Winona Chen was tops in women’s elite at 2:07:51.3.
