A Coast Guard petty officer was sentenced to nine years in prison for sexually assaulting and abusing a young girl in Honolulu last year.
During a court-martial Tuesday at the Alameda (Calif.) Coast Guard Base, Petty Officer 3rd Class Jesse P. Wilson entered a guilty plea to sexual abuse of a child; two specifications of sexual assault of a child; extortion; two counts of assault; false official statement; knowingly possessing an explicit image of a child; and failing to properly register firearms.
Wilson was sentenced to nine years’ confinement, a dishonorable discharge and reduction to the rank of seaman recruit, according to a Coast Guard news release.
The Coast Guard said Wilson committed sexual acts with a victim older than 12 but younger than 16 in Honolulu in December. Wilson also “communicated indecent language” to the victim, resulting in the charge of sexual abuse of a child. He pleaded guilty to extortion after he threatened to post nude images of an adult victim on the Internet in November.
During the investigation, agents from the Coast Guard Investigative Service found an explicit image of the child victim on his phone, which resulted in a charge of conduct discrediting to the Coast Guard for knowingly possessing an explicit image of a child.
Investigators also discovered Wilson had physically assaulted two people in separate incidents while stationed at Coast Guard Special Missions Training Center in North Carolina in 2011 and 2013, resulting in two specifications of assault.
Wilson will serve his sentence at U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig Miramar in California.
