A motor vehicle accident toppled a utility pole in Waiau this morning and left more than 900 customers without power, including Pearl City High School

The power outage that forced Pearl City High School to close today was caused by a motor vehicle accident, according to a Hawaiian Electric spokesperson.
As of noon today, HECO crews were continuing repair work.
The motor vehicle accident, which toppled a utility pole, left about 910 customers in the Waiau area without power around 6:30 a.m. today, according to HECO. About 20 customers remained without power as of 10:30 a.m. with full restoration estimated at 3:30 p.m.
No serious injuries were immediately reported.

Pearl City High School is closed today due to a power outage that has disrupted campus operations, the state Department of Education said.
The outage, which is expected to last several hours, has left the school unable to provide meal services or maintain normal operations. As a result, the school campus will be closed to both students and faculty today.
Families and staff are being notified about the closure, according to Nanea Ching, communications director for the Department of Education.
All other Hawaii public schools are operating as scheduled.
