Obon ceremonies regroup in Lahaina

The Lahaina O-Bon Festival was held at the Lahaina Cannery Mall on Saturday. Because the three Buddhist temples in Lahaina were destroyed in the Aug. 8, 2023 wildfire, it was the first time the dances were held jointly by Lahaina Shingon Mission, Lahaina Jodo Mission and Lahaina Hongwanji. At the center was the Lahaina Hongwanji yagura, or musician’s tower, which had been erected for the 2023 dance and miraculously survived the fire.
