A 51-year-old man with fatal stab wounds was found early Sunday morning on Daniel K. Inouye International Airport property, authorities said.

A sheriff deputy found the man at 6:40 a.m. At 7:16 a.m. the man, who has not been identified, was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Hawaii Department of Law Enforcement has opened a second-degree murder case and is handling the investigation.

The department has requested assistance from HPD’s Homicide Detail and Scientific Investigation Section in processing the scene.

DLE said an investigation determined that the victim was possibly homeless. His name was withheld until his family can be notified, officials said.
