Honolulu bus, Handi-Van phone system back up but online services still down

UPDATE: 9 p.m.

City transit officials said Saturday evening that TheHandi-Van systems have been restored and operating normally except for the EVA real-time van arrival system.

Oahu Transit Services’ online services including the thebus.org website, HEA and related real-time GPS services are all offline until at least Monday.

Skyline rail service is unaffected by the outage. Officials anticipate normal operations on Sunday for TheBus and TheHandi-Van.

City transit officials said this afternoon that TheBus and TheHandi-Van phone systems are working again but online services including the thebus.org website, HEA (Honolulu Estimated Arrival), and other real-time transit and GPS apps remain unavailable.

“Passengers may experience delays in service today, Saturday, and we apologize for any inconvenience to our riders,” the update said.

“TheBus and TheHandi-Van may be experiencing ongoing delays from this morning’s disruption, however, we anticipate normal operations on tomorrow’s Sunday schedule for TheBus and regular TheHandi-Van trips as scheduled,” officials said just after 3 p.m..

On Monday, the phone and online system for TheBus and TheHandi-Van was down for about seven hours starting in mid-afternoon.

City officials said TheHandi-Van reservation lines are coming back online and passengers can now schedule trips.

Oahu Transit Services’ phone lines for TheBus and online services including HEA (Honolulu Estimated Arrival) and related real-time transit and GPS apps, are still unavailable “and will be restored as soon as our systems are brought online,” according to an update from the Honolulu Department of Transportation Services.

“OTS is currently working on restoring all systems for TheBus and TheHandi-Van, and is investigating the cause. Passengers may experience delays in service, and we apologize for any inconvenience to our riders,” the update said.

Officials said that Skyline rail service is unaffected by the outage.

“TheBus and TheHandi-Van may be experiencing delays from this morning’s disruption, however, we plan to operate our full Saturday schedule on TheBus and fulfill TheHandi-Van trips as scheduled to the extent possible as we bring all systems back online,” they said in the 9:15 a.m. update.
