Juvenile motorcyclist dies after Kalanianaole Highway crash

A juvenile male motorcyclist died after a fatal motor vehicle collision on Kalanianaole Highway near Ulupii Street near Kailua Tuesday afternoon.

The Honolulu Police Department said that at about 1:30 p.m., the motorcyclist was traveling southbound on Kalanianaole Highway at a “high rate of speed” when he went over a speed hump, lost control and was ejected off the bike into a guardrail.

Honolulu Emergency Medical Services responded to the motorcyclist on scene before taking him to the hospital in critical condition, where he later died. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet at the time of the collision.

HPD said speed appears to be a factor in the incident. It is unknown whether drugs or alcohol were also contributing factors. An investigation is ongoing.

This was the 14th traffic fatality on Oahu this year as compared with 26 at the same time in 2023.

Police did not give the victim’s exact age. An earlier Honolulu Emergency Medical Services report said the motorcyclist was a man in his 30s.
