Man, 72, stabbed in ‘unprovoked attack’ in Kakaako

A 72-year-old man was seriously injured after being stabbed in an “unprovoked attack” Sunday night at Waterfront Plaza in Kakaako.

Honolulu police officers and Honolulu Emergency Services paramedics responded to the stabbing at about 8:30 p.m. Police said the man “was stabbed on the back of his neck to the left of his spine in an unprovoked attack.”

Paramedics treated the man and took him to a trauma center in serious condition.

HPD has opened a second-degree attempted murder case and have made no arrests.

HPD did not say the exact location of the stabbing but Waterfront Plaza management confirmed that it happened on the grounds of the building complex.

”We are deeply saddened by the random act of violence in Kakaako. Our thoughts are with the victim and their loved ones,” a written statement from management officials said. “Law-enforcement, building security, and emergency services responded swiftly to the incident. The safety of our tenants, customers, and community is our top priority, and we are working closely with authorities to ensure a thorough investigation is completed.

“We understand that these random events can be unsettling, and we want to ensure the community that additional security measures have been implemented to safeguard public spaces.”
