The Honolulu Police Department, urging responsible driving this holiday season, will be setting up randomized, impaired driver checkpoints from Nov. 1 to Dec. 31.

The checkpoints will be set up at unannounced times and locations around Oahu during that timeframe, HPD said, as part of the department’s ongoing efforts to reduce traffic injuries and deaths.

HPD reminds the public that the legal drinking age is 21, and that promoting intoxicating liquor to a person under 21 is a misdemeanor punishable by up to a year in prison.

Officers have been conducting weekly impaired driver checkpoints since September and will continue to do so through September 2024 as part of the federal “52/12” sobriety checkpoint program, which requires a minimum of 52 checkpoints per year.
