Kamehameha garnered all 10 first-place votes to remain at No. 1 in the Star-Advertiser Girls Volleyball Top 10.
The Warriors defeated Punahou 25-16, 19-25, 25-22, 25-17 last week to remain unbeaten in ILH double-elimination playoff action. Kamehameha has won 11 matches in a row since losing at Punahou on Sept. 8. The last three wins have been over the Buffanblu.
ILH title hopes are still in reach for Punahou. If Punahou defeats Kamehameha on Thursday, they will meet again on Saturday for the tournament title. If Punahou wins that match, as well, the Buffanblu and Warriors would play for the ILH championship on Halloween.
A lot of ifs, but the opportunity is there for Punahou, which was No. 1 in the first eight Top 10 polls of the season. Kamehameha took over on Oct. 9 and has remained on the throne since.
In the OIA, Moanalua and Mililani have opening-round byes. Moanalua will host the Leilehua-Kaiser winner on Thursday. Mililani will entertain the Kahuku-Campbell winner, also on Thursday. Thursday’s quarterfinal winners will earn automatic state-tournament berths.
In the MIL, Baldwin will begin playoff action on Tuesday.
Mid-Pacific, winner of the ILH Division II regular season, bumped higher to No. 8, the Owls’ highest ranking of the season.
Damien and University, which also earned automatic state-tournament berths, round out the Top 10.
The New City Nissan/HHSAA Girls Volleyball Division II State Championships will begin on Nov. 7. Early-round matches will be at Moanalua and McKinley.
The D-I state tournament will start on Nov. 6. Early-round matches will be at Kalani and Kaimuki.
The finals for D-I and D-II will be hosted by BYU-Hawaii at Cannon Activities Center on Nov. 10.
