Gov. Josh Green and first lady Jaime Green delivered an address to discuss the latest updates covering ongoing disaster relief efforts on Maui.
Gov. Green did not provide new statistics on the Lahaina death toll, but said more than 60% of the disaster area has been searched. He added that 470 search and rescue workers and 40 search dogs are on the scene, reiterating a statement from FEMA issued earlier today.
“The number of lives we have lost has climbed to over one hundred, and we expect it to increase each day we continue our search,” Green said.
More than 2,200 buildings were destroyed in the Maui fires, with another 500 damaged. Green puts the cost of structures lost at nearly $6 billion.

To shelter those displaced by the fire, the state and county, along with other agencies, have secured more than 2,000 housing units. Those entities are working with the American Red Cross to provide housing “as long as necessary,” Green said.
