Checkout counters at Foodland stores, including the original Market City location in Kapahulu, have been ringing up record business during the company’s 10th anniversary sale. Maurice J. Sullivan, Foodland president and general manager, recalls that on opening day in May 1948, shoppers bought everything on the store’s shelves.
