Among the pros of the location: It is removed from Waikiki congestion, it would diversify the tourism economy, it would revitalize Kapiolani Boulevard, the private developer would build the center without taxpayer funds and the lot is vacant.

Hawaiian Airlines has installed the first baggage screening X-ray for checking the hand baggage of interisland travelers. The new device should speed up inspection at Honolulu Airport check-in counters for the many local residents who carry boxes of pastries and other packages that previously had to be opened. Coreen Correia, a sergeant with the Hawaii Protective Association, stands at the X-ray’s controls.
