Honolulu firefighters responded to a 911 call at about 1:10 a.m. today of a house falling into the ocean and a downed power line at 59-181 Ke Nui Road.

When fire crews arrived, they saw a house partially collapsed onto the beach, said Honolulu Fire Department spokeswoman Louise Kim McCoy.

“There were no occupants in the residence at the time of the collapse and no injuries were reported,” McCoy said.

Firefighters cordoned the area to safeguard the public.

A house collapsed onto the beach on Oahu’s North Shore this morning after a weekend of high surf.

The house at 59-181-H Ke Nui Road collapsed at about 7:50 a.m., according to Honolulu police. No injuries were reported and the house, which is a few blocks from Sunset Beach Park, was unoccupied at the time.

City officials issued an advisory late this morning, saying, “Shoreline hazards due to coastal erosion exist fronting Monster Mush surf spot between Rocky Point and Sunset Beach. Unstable structures have been shifting resulting in debris on the beach and near shore waters. Ocean Safety recommends using extreme caution or avoiding this area.”

The north and west shores of Oahu have been under a high surf advisory since Sunday afternoon with large breaking waves of 12 to 18 feet, according to the National Weather Service.

Warning-size surf of about 25 feet also hit north shores on Friday and Saturday.

The high surf advisory is in effect until 6 p.m. today and also covers the north and west shores of Niihau, Kauai and Molokai, and the north shores of Maui.
