Mammoth winter storm blankets swaths of U.S. in ice and snow

A winter storm is sweeping across the U.S. mainland. It caused an apparent tornado in Alabama, dumped more than a foot of snow in parts of the Midwest and brought rare measurable snowfall to parts of Texas.
