Musician and portrait artist Mark Taylor waited for a patron on the sidewalk in Waikiki in 2011. Taylor had been creating his artwork for 12 years there and was arrested three times for peddling his work. Taylor was fined $150 in 2011 for using the drum function on his keyboards while playing on the streets. According to Taylor at the time, the police officer said he was violating a code that bans using recorded music on electronic devices while performing.
