Kilauea eruption continues as alert level goes from warning to watch

The Kilauea eruption within the Halemaumau Crater has been downgraded from warning to watch alert level. Since the eruption began on Sept. 29, Hawaiian Volcano Observatory scientists have observed vigorous fountains spewing lava 164 to 197 feet high, producing significant amounts of pumice, Pele's hair and volcanic glass fragments. The eruption is confined to the crater.
