Makiki streets reopened after utility poles repaired

Honolulu police reopened lanes on Piikoi and Kinau streets early today after crews completed repairs to five utility poles in Makiki.

A pickup truck crashed into a utility pole on Piikoi Street early Wednesday, causing it to topple. Lines connected to the pole pulled down four other utility poles.

Police shut down lanes on Piikoi Street from South Beretania Street to Lunalilo Street. Officers also shut down Kinau Street from Piikoi to Pensacola Street as crews from Hawaiian Electric and other utilities conducted repairs.

The crash also resulted in a power outage to more than 700 Hawaiian Electric customers. Crews restored power to a majority of customers by the afternoon and to remaining customers Wednesday night.
