Power restored to hundreds in Makiki after truck crashes into utility pole
Police shut down roads in Makiki after an early morning single-vehicle crash toppled five utility poles.
A pickup truck crashed into a pole on Piikoi Street at approximately 1 a.m. today, causing the pole to fall. The lines on the pole caused four other utility poles to topple, said Shannon Tangonan, spokeswoman of Hawaiian Electric.
Police shut down lanes on Piikoi Street from South Beretania Street to Lunalilo Street. Officers also shut down Kinau Street from Piikoi to Pensacola Street as crews conduct repairs.
The crash also caused a power outage to more than 700 Hawaiian Electric customers. Crews restored power to a majority of customers by this afternoon.
Hawaiian Electric estimates repairs to be completed by 9 p.m. Other utilities will then follow with repairs to their lines.
