Man, 54, facing attempted murder, attempted sex assault charges after Maui restroom attack
Prosecutors charged a 54-year-old man after he allegedly attempted to sexually assault a 22-year-old woman in a bathroom stall in Lahaina.
Alfred O. Pasley is scheduled to make his initial appearance at Wailuku District Court today on charges of first-degree attempted sexual assault, kidnapping, second-degree attempted murder, second-degree assault and first-degree terroristic threatening. His bail is set at $72,000.
Maui police said the woman was exiting a stall at the women’s bathroom at Lahaina Harbor at about 9 a.m. Sunday when a man exited another stall while holding a knife.
The man forced the woman into a stall where he allegedly attempted to sexually assault her.
Police said a struggle ensued, resulting in a hand injury to the victim. The woman screamed for help at which time bystanders and family members came to her aid. Medics treated the victim at the scene.
Several bystanders detained the suspect, identified as Pasley, until police arrived.
