Las Vegas Raiders football quarterback and Heisman trophy winner Marcus Mariota has recorded a public service announcement on behalf of nonprofit group Papa Ola Lokahi, encouraging others to get vaccinated against COVID-19.

“The Samoan community has been hit hard by the COVID pandemic,” says Mariota during the 30-second public service announcement. “Pacific Islanders, Hawaiians, and Filipinos, have carried the greatest burden of COVID-19. Please get vaccinated so we can get our community back to normal. You want your kids back in school, you want to watch and play football? Please, get vaccinated.”

Papa Ola Lokahi spokeswoman Kim Birnie said the nonprofit asked Mariota, a Saint Louis School grad, if he would record the PSA.

“He’s an influencer,” she said. “He’s a good guy, and he was willing to do it. And we’re really grateful.”

The nonprofit hopes the PSA reaches the Native Hawaiian and Pacific Islander community as well as a younger audience that looks up to Mariota as a role model. Mariota, 27, is also the founder of the Motiv8 Foundation, a nonprofit aimed at helping youth in underserved communities.

The PSA aired during the Raiders game on Saturday.
