Hawaii Department of Health officials reported 539 new confirmed and probable coronavirus infections today, bringing the state’s total since the start of the pandemic to 51,739 cases.

No new virus-related fatalities were reported today so the statewide COVID-19 death toll remains 552.

The state’s official coronavirus-related death toll includes 426 fatalities on Oahu, 62 on Maui, 59 on Hawaii island, two on Kauai and three Hawaii residents who died outside the state.

The U.S. coronavirus-related death toll today is over 621,000 and the nationwide infection tally is more than 36.7 million.

Today’s new confirmed and probable infection count by island includes 376 new cases on Oahu, 49 on Maui, 80 on Hawaii island, 14 on Kauai, three on Molokai, and 17 Hawaii residents diagnosed outside the state.

The total number of confirmed and probable coronavirus cases by island since the start of the outbreak are 36,892 on Oahu, 6,066 on Maui, 5,669 in Hawaii County, 853 on Kauai, 119 on Lanai and 128 on Molokai. There are also 2,012 Hawaii residents who were diagnosed outside of the state.

The statistics released today reflect the new infection cases reported to the department on Saturday.

Health officials also said today that, of the state’s total infection count, 8,165 cases were considered to be active. Officials say they consider infections reported in the past 14 days to be a “proxy number for active cases.” The state’s total number of active cases increased today by 167.

By island, Oahu has 5,645 active cases, the Big Island has 1,421, Maui has 767, Kauai has 285, Lanai has two and Molokai has 45.

Health officials counted 7,772 new COVID-19 test results in today’s tally, for a 6.94% statewide positivity rate. The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is 7.5%, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard.

The latest Hawaii COVID-19 vaccine summary says 1,804,695 vaccine doses have been administered through state and federal distribution programs as of Saturday, up 7,289 from a day earlier. Health officials say that 61.3% of the state’s population is now fully vaccinated, and 69% have received at least one dose.

Of all the confirmed Hawaii infection cases, 3,034 have required hospitalizations, with four new hospitalizations reported today.

Sixteen hospitalizations in the overall statewide count are Hawaii residents who were diagnosed and treated outside the state. Of the 3,018 hospitalizations within the state, 2,448 have been on Oahu, 354 on Maui, 193 on the Big Island, 16 on Kauai, five on Lanai and two on Molokai.

According to the latest information from the department’s Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard, a total of 308 patients with the virus were in Hawaii hospitals as of Saturday, with 68 in intensive care units and 52 on ventilators.

The last time COVID-19 hospitalizations in Hawaii topped 300 was on Sept. 8, 2020, when the islands saw a record 315 patients admitted.

The seven-day average case count for Oahu is 450 and the seven-day average positivity rate is 8.4%, state health officials said today.
