The Ala Wai Canal, which bristles with the activity of racing outrigger canoes, boating enthusiasts and
crab fishermen during most of the day, is a dismal sight at low tide, which reveals junk and debris buried
in the tons of silt from Oahu’s uplands. The state Legislature has appropriated funds for the dredging of
the drainage canal.
