Las Vegas Advisor: Main Street casino in Vegas announces reopening date

It took a while, but one of the last casinos to remain closed after last year’s shutdown has announced an opening date. Downtown’s Main Street Station will finally reopen on Sept. 8. And in news almost as significant as the opening itself, the casino will open with an operating buffet.

The Garden Court Buffet will serve brunch daily and dinner on Fridays and Saturdays; prices have not yet been announced. The Triple 7 brewpub will also be open. With the return of Main Street Station, all downtown casinos have now reopened.

Who’s left?: More than a year after the casinos were allowed to reopen, only five in the entire Las Vegas area remain closed. They are Eastside Cannery, Texas Station, Fiesta Rancho, Fiesta Henderson and the Palms.

A ninth buffet: For a while at least, Westgate Las Vegas is serving Las Vegas’ ninth buffet. The buffet is open for breakfast ($19.99) and lunch ($22.99), but only until the end of August. At that time the buffet will be discontinued so the room can be renovated. Then, presumably, it will return.

Super Karaoke: The SuperBook at Westgate Las Vegas is hosting Super Karaoke on Thursdays. Beginning at 10 p.m., it’s free to participate or just watch on one of the world’s largest indoor LED video walls.

Plaza selfies: As part of its 50th anniversary celebration, the Plaza has opened Studio 71, a space that offers “disco-inspired” neon- and LED-lit backdrops for selfies and group shots. The 71 in the name stands for 1971, the early days of the disco craze and the year the Plaza opened. It’s free and open Saturdays and Sundays through the end of the year.

Question: What earns more in a casino — table games or slots?

Answer: It varies by casino and location, but a good blanket answer is slots by about a two-thirds to one-third margin. For years, table games were king, but slots slowly took the lead and it will likely stay that way, at least in Las Vegas.
