Expect the Oahu portal for rent and utility payment assistance — oneoahu.org/renthelp — to be extra- busy today. This morning the city was due to reopen applications to the next group of 5,000 people who are behind on payments and need help getting square with their landlord.
Along with that, another reminder to the tenants: It’s time to make a claim for the federal evictions moratorium, which can help keep renters in their homes for now. The form is at 808ne.ws/eviction — there is no putting that off.
Testing national emergency alerts
So, you didn’t get the emergency alert on your cell phone on Wednesday, something the Federal Emergency Management Agency and the Federal Communications Commission said it would test nationally.
Join the club of many — including those who may have their phone in airplane mode, out of signal range or simply have not switched on the alert.
Instructions vary by phone type, so it’s probably safest to follow the instructions given by the FCC (808ne.ws/mobilealert), which includes how to turn it off, too.
