A 19-year-old woman who sustained critical injuries after another woman allegedly ran over her with a sport utility vehicle in the Keeaumoku area early Saturday has died.

A criminal complaint filed at Honolulu District Court against Tomanu Tauala, the alleged driver of the SUV, identified the victim as Nehlia-Ann Scanlan.

Prosecutors charged Tauala, 29, Sunday afternoon with one count of second-degree attempted murder before Scanlan’s death.

Scanlan’s family members are grief-stricken and declined to comment at this time. Scanlan was the mother of a 3-year-old boy.

A police spokeswoman said the case will be reclassified to murder from attempted murder. The prosecutor’s office declined to comment.

Tauala made her initial appearance Monday before Judge Tracy Fukui via videoconference from the courthouse cellblock on the attempted murder charge. Her bail is currently set at $300,000.

Police said a woman was involved in a fight with a group of people in the parking lot of 825 Keeaumoku St. at about 12:50 a.m. Saturday. The woman, later identified as Tauala, allegedly entered a vehicle and drove toward the group, hitting two women who were also involved in the affray.

The Honolulu Fire Department said the women, ages 19 and 30, were trapped underneath the SUV. Firefighters used pneumatic lifting bladders to lift the vehicle off the victims.

The 19-year-old woman, later identified as Scanlan, was taken in critical condition to a hospital where she died. The other victim was taken in serious condition to a hospital.

Police arrested Tauala in the adjoining parking lot at 815 Keeaumoku St.

Records show Tauala paid a $150 fine in 2015 for driving under the influence of an intoxicant, a petty misdemeanor, in 2015.

Correction: An earlier version of this story had an incorrect first name for Judge Tracy Fukui.
