Honolulu Ocean Safety personnel rescued six people from an overturned canoe about a mile off Black Point this morning.

A 911 call just before 10:40 a.m. reported six paddlers in distress in rough waters and windy conditions, according to Honolulu Emergency Services Department
Honolulu Fire Department officials said the canoe’s outrigger supports failed, making it impossible to keep the vessel upright.
Ocean Safety rescuers reached the capsized canoe and ferried the paddlers to shore by 11:18 a.m.
HFD units and an Emergency Medical Services crew were waiting, however the paddlers reported no injuries, according to HFD.
Ocean Safety’s Rescue 1 and HFD’s Rescue 1 boat towed the canoe back to the club’s canoe house near the Ala Wai Boat Harbor, HFD said.

Fire officials advise boaters and canoe paddlers to bring two working forms of communication and to keep cellphones in a waterproof container for emergencies.
