Hawaii Disability Rights Center offering inclusive vaccinations in August at Waikele Center
The Hawaii Disability Rights Center is offering two inclusive COVID-19 vaccination clinics in August to encourage those in the community, along with their caregivers and families, to get vaccinated.
The clinics will be held in partnership with Hawaii Pacific Health from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Aug. 7 and 28 at Waikele Center in Waipahu. HPH will be administering the Pfizer and Johnson & Johnson vaccines.
In addition to being accessible to those who are mobility impaired, the clinics will have an American Sign Language interpreter to assist deaf or hearing-impaired attendees, along with HDRC advocates that can help those that are visually impaired or have developmental disabilities. Chuukese and Tagolog interpreters will also be available.
Approximately 1 of 10 residents in Hawaii have a disability, according to HDRC.
The free event is open to the public, and walk-ins are welcome, but appointments can also be made via Hawaii Pacific Health’s vaccine website. Waikele Center is at 94-849 Lumiaina St., and the clinic will be along the fence near Petco.
Those participating in the vaccine clinic should bring a photo ID. Minors ages 12 to 17 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian or have a signed, parental consent form. To say thank you, organizers are offering a prize drawing and treats for all participants.
