In what was labeled a “partial count,” Hawaii Department of Health officials today reported 85 new confirmed and probable coronavirus-infections statewide and three additional virus-related deaths, bringing the state’s totals since the start of the pandemic to 41,069 cases and 532 fatalities.

Two of the deaths were on Maui and one on the Big Island, officials said, but no further information was immediately available regarding the latest deaths.

The state’s official coronavirus-related death toll includes 410 fatalities on Oahu, 60 on Maui, 57 on Hawaii island, two on Kauai, and three Hawaii residents who died outside the state. The U.S. coronavirus-related death toll today is more than 611,000 and the nationwide infection tally is over 34.6 million.

Just before posting the daily midday COVID count, Health Department officials issued a statement that they were releasing a “partial count” today.

“Due to an electronic lab reporting system interruption, the COVID-19 case count reported by the Hawaii State Department of Health today will be a partial count. The issue has been addressed and lab reports should be caught up over the next 24 hours. The July 29 case count will include cases from both July 27 and the July 26 cases that were not included in today’s tally,” the statement said.

Today’s new confirmed and probable infection count by island includes 50 new cases on Oahu, 18 on Hawaii island, 17 on Maui, and three on Kauai. Three COVID cases of Hawaii residents outside of the state were removed from the counts.

The total number of confirmed and probable coronavirus cases by island since the start of the outbreak are 29,909 on Oahu, 4,978 on Maui, 3,785 in Hawaii County, 522 on Kauai, 117 on Lanai, and 81 on Molokai. There are also 1,677 Hawaii residents who were diagnosed outside of the state.

The statistics released today reflect the new infection cases reported to the department on Monday.

Of the state’s total infection count, 2,185 cases were considered to be active. Officials say they consider infections reported in the past 14 days to be a “proxy number for active cases.” The state’s total number of active cases increased today by 42.

By island, Oahu has 1,395 active cases, the Big Island has 382, Maui has 183, Kauai has 78, Lanai has two, and Molokai has one.

The state’s 7-day average positivity rate is 4.9%, according to the Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard.

The latest Hawaii COVID-19 vaccine summary says 1,748,972 vaccine doses have been administered through state and federal distribution programs as of today, up 2,105 from Tuesday. Health officials say that 59.9% of the state’s population is now fully vaccinated, and 66.6% have received at least one dose.

Of all the confirmed Hawaii infection cases, 2,672 have required hospitalizations, with 15 new hospitalizations reported today.

Fifteen hospitalizations in the overall statewide count are Hawaii residents who were diagnosed and treated outside the state. Of the 2,657 hospitalizations within the state, 2,164 have been on Oahu, 313 on Maui, 158 on the Big Island, 16 on Kauai, five on Lanai, and one on Molokai.

On Tuesday, for the first time since January, state health officials reported more than 100 COVID patients in Hawaii hospitals.

According to today’s update on the department’s Hawaii COVID-19 Data dashboard, a total of 111 patients with the virus are in Hawaii hospitals, with 20 in intensive care units and 13 on ventilators. The last time that Hawaii had more than 100 COVID patients in the hospitals was Jan. 29.

At the peak of the pandemic last fall, Hawaii had 315 hospitalized patients on Sept. 8, according to the state’s records.
