Fear 808 (Hawaii Kai) is heading to the Cal Ripken World Series after winning the 10-under Pacific Southwest Regional in Price, Utah.
Fear 808 earned two wins on Saturday by mercy rule, defeating Visalia, Calif., 10-5 in five innings in the semifinals, and Emery, Utah, 11-1 in four innings in the championship. Fear 808 advances to the 10u World Series, which will be played in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., starting on Aug. 6.
In the semifinal game, Jayce Braun went 2-for-2 with four runs batted in to fuel the offense. Emmeric Alapa and Jayden Kalaikai each added two hits while driving in a run.
In the championship, Fear 808 took control with three runs in the third and six in the fourth to put the mercy rule into effect. Alapa again keyed the offense, blasting a home run and driving in three runs, while Braun added another three RBIs.
Keona Barazza was named to the All-tournament team, which consisted of one player from each of the 10 teams. Fear 808 finished the tournament with a 6-0 record, outscoring their opponents 88-2.
Kalanianaole Athletic Club wins 12U Regional
Kalanianaole Athletic Club claimed the 12-under Cal Ripken Pacific Southwest Regional in Bakersfield, Calif., with two wins Saturday.
KAC defeated Yuma, Ariz., in the semifinals, plating 11 runs to induce a five-inning 11-1 mercy rule victory. In the win, Massao Minami went 2-for-3 with a home run, while scoring two runs and driving in four.
In the championship, KAC defeated another local team, defeating Hawaii Kai Elite 5-3. Minami again sparked the offense, blasting a solo home run in the win.
Cohen Adaro, Jonah Brub, Jonah Parker, and Jacob Ellazar earned All-tournament honors, while Minami was named the tournament MVP.
Kalanianaole Athletic Club advances to the 12u World Series, which will be played in Branson, Mo., starting on Aug 5.
